Mini FPV Camera – an affordable mini cam

minicameraIn this article we’re going to write about a spy cam that has another fun application. The Mini FPV Camera has relatively small dimensions (73mm x 20mm x 11mm) and it resembles the look of older MP3 players or dictaphones more than a camera. We used the term relatively because there are many smaller mini cams available, but their image quality in a bit higher price range is much worse or their price gets much higher if video quality gets close to decent.

It is able to record in AVI video format and WAV audio format. The AVI video format resolution is in 640×480 pixels and it is able to record until the memory is full or when it is manually stopped. It uses SD or T-Flash cards for storing memory. Depending on the memory size which can be 128MB to 4GB you can record up to 6 hours of video since the video file size is a bit larger than 500kb per minute.

The Mini FPV Camera uses a Lithium-ion battery which is charged by a USB adaptor. It uses USB to transfer or playback files. Playback can be done on a PC or a cell phone. You can use only the audio recording function and it gives you up to 2 days of audio recording.

It weights only 18 grams so it is very suitable to be used on remote controlled (RC) vehicles such as RC helicopters and planes thus making very entertaining videos. Even greater fun is to mount a couple of these cameras onto a RC car because the sense of speed is much greater if you get closer to the ground.

There are a few drawbacks. The camera itself is mounted on a strange position that is less noticeable because there are no buttons on that side but it makes it less practical to be worn and used in same time, and a bit less practical when used on RC vehicles since it has to be positioned upright or sideways.

We hope that the newer versions of this camera will have that matter solved by placing the camera on the top of the gadget and make it adjustable in horizontal axis so it could be used in various places and conditions.
